Summary
Wakana Gojou is a fifteen year old high-school boy who was socially traumatized in the past due to his passion for dolls and doll-making。 That incident left a mark on him that made him into a social recluse。 But one day he was caught talking to his doll by Kitagawa Marin， a sociable gyaru who is perfectly open about her otaku interests -- in short， the complete opposite of him。

This manga is overloaded with fanservice， but it's filled even more with charm。There's a clear warning for explicit content in the cover。 Don't disregard it if that's a red flag for you。 If it's not though， then you'll most likely agree that this is a delightful pageturner。 I was ambivalent: not about this manga （which I love） but about writing a review for it。 I don't think the controversy for borderline ecchi anime/manga is a new topic at all， but somehow I feel the need of justifying my appre This manga is overloaded with fanservice， but it's filled even more with charm。There's a clear warning for explicit content in the cover。 Don't disregard it if that's a red flag for you。 If it's not though， then you'll most likely agree that this is a delightful pageturner。 I was ambivalent: not about this manga （which I love） but about writing a review for it。 I don't think the controversy for borderline ecchi anime/manga is a new topic at all， but somehow I feel the need of justifying my appreciation for this specific series。To start off， I'm convinced that if you remove all the fanservice from "My Dress-Up Darling"， you'd still have a solid romcom。 So why does Fukuda-sensei choose to include all of these sexualized strips？ I can only guess: first， because he can （I mean he's an amazing artist） but also; secondly， why would he not？ If I drew a romcom manga， I would totally prefer to make the protagonist's love interest as gorgeous and attractive as possible。 It's a make-believe world after all， you know， like a bunch of （equally sexualized） films and shows。I fell for this manga simply because of the main characters。 Both of them。 Gojo and Marin have a lot of personality。 Wakana Gojo is self conscious about his hobby and his dream to become a Hina-doll artisan， but he's super passionate and kind。 Marin Kitagawa is easygoing and super confident but also very sympathetic。 To be brief， they're both decent teenagers。 Gojo is definitely not a pervert nor a clueless dork， he's just too self-conscious （and also a teenager）。 Marin is righteous and friendly despite being THE popular girl。 Furthermore， I feel that Gojo's overly reserved nature is even relatable （I mean I've been into anime at a time when it was looked down upon） so for him to be friends with Marin is not only a gift but a social lifeline。 It's very compelling and sweet to see how Gojo and Marin grow towards each other while it's also fun to see them deal with how their personalities are so different yet so similar。 For me， "My Dress-Up Darling" is incredibly charming even with all the layers of fanservice on top of it。 。。。more

This is probably one of the cutest， fan service heavy， series that I have read in ages。 Marin and Gojo are adorable because they love what they love， and that makes them a perfect duo。 I know this series is probably going to turn into one of those harem situations， which can be annoying as all hell， but I like Gojo as a character， so things may turn out alright。 However， if you are not into fan service or the fact that one of the main characters is into BDSM eroge games， maybe skip this one。
